WELLSBORO, PA—The Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition (PBCC) will display its traveling photo exhibit “67 Women, 67 Counties: Facing Breast Cancer in Pennsylvania” at Soldiers + Sailors Memorial Hospital from April 5 to April 16, 2010. The photo exhibit will be displayed for the public to view, and a free opening reception will be held beginning at 7 p.m. Following a presentation on the exhibit, refreshments and tours of the hospital’s new digital mammography unit will be available. To RSVP for the opening reception, please call 1-800-377-8828, extension 303.

The artistic exhibit features women from each of Pennsylvania’s 67 counties, along with a message about how breast cancer has touched their lives. The women reflect the diversity of Pennsylvania, and their stories reflect the impact of breast cancer on themselves, their families, and their communities. The exhibit encourages women to learn about early detection and celebrates the life, courage, hope, and dignity of these families.

“Soldiers + Sailors Memorial Hospital is proud to host this extraordinary event featuring the brave women of Tioga county and their battle with breast cancer,” says Jan Fisher, President & CEO of Soldiers + Sailors Memorial Hospital. “We hope that sharing these stories creates an increased awareness of how important early detection can be in winning the fight against breast cancer."

“67 Women, 67 Counties: Facing Breast Cancer in Pennsylvania” is sponsored by the PBCC and funded by the Pennsylvania Department of Health.  The exhibit travels to several select Pennsylvania communities each year, and has been to over 80 communities since its launch ten years ago.

Pat Halpin-Murphy, PBCC President and Founder, encourages everyone to visit the exhibit. “Breast cancer is not a rare event separate from the fabrics of our everyday lives.  It impacts our mothers, daughters, and friends. We must educate ourselves about this disease and fight to find a cure now so our daughters won’t have to.”

The PA Breast Cancer Coalition represents, supports, and serves breast cancer survivors and their families in Pennsylvania through educational programming, legislative advocacy, and breast cancer research grants. The PBCC is a statewide, non-profit organization that creates the hope of a brighter tomorrow by providing action and information to women with breast cancer today.
