WELLSBORO, PA—Throughout November, organizations across the nation are celebrating the unique support and benefits provided by loving home care and hospice. During its celebration, Laurel Home Health & Hospice recognizes its 40 employees for their dedication to the patients and families they serve.

Comprised of physical, speech, and occupational therapists; nurses; home health aides; a social worker; a volunteer coordinator; and support staff, the LHH/H team provides home health care and hospice care.

More than four million Americans receive home-delivered healthcare each day from nearly a million home health providers nationwide. Laurel Home Health benefits patients who are recovering at home after a hospitalization, nursing home stay, or medical issue, such as a broken hip, pneumonia, or heart attack, when continued skilled medical care is needed. LHH works with patients and their loved ones to develop a plan tailored to each individual to return him or her to his or her prior level of health and independence. Home Health promotes wellness, recovery, and disease prevention as well as the management of chronic diseases.

Comfort and respect are among the values embodied every day by Laurel Hospice's highly trained team of professionals and volunteers. The team works together to make sure both patients and families receive the comprehensive care and comfort they need. Hospice, also known as end-of-life care, shifts the focus from treatment to comfort, relieving symptoms and managing pain for patients with a life expectancy of six months or less.

Every year, over 1.5 million patients with a life-limiting illness receive care from the nation’s hospices every year, including families right here in Tioga County. Laurel Hospice’s healthcare team provides expert medical care to keep patients comfortable and focused on enjoying time with loved ones.

“Hospice makes sure that people receive comfort, love and respect during one of life’s most significant experiences – the journey at life’s end,” said J. Donald Schumacher, PsyD, president and CEO of National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO).

Laurel Hospice’s team provides expert pain management, symptom control, emotional support, and spiritual care to patients and family caregivers when a cure is not possible to add more quality of life to patients’ remaining time.
