Saturday, December 1—Deadline for program coordinators of youth activities in Tioga County to apply for funds raised by the Laurel Health System Pro-Am Golf Tournament. Funds are awarded based on need, the number of youths involved in each program, and that program’s ability to meet funding criteria. Saturday, December 1—Laurel Hospice will sell Remembrance Ornaments on Friday, December 4 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. during Dickens of a Christmas. The booth will be located in front of the Dumpling House on Main Street. Large ornaments are $11, and small ornaments are $6. A small stand on which ornaments may be displayed sells for $2. The ornaments will be presented in a gift bag tied with gold ribbon. A Tree of Remembrance will be on display at our booth. Anyone may place foam ornaments bearing the names of remembered loved ones on the tree for free. The foam ornaments will then be transferred to a large tree in the lobby at Soldiers + Sailors Memorial Hospital where they will remain on display throughout the holiday season.

Saturday, December 1—The Laurels will hold a free Victorian Tea as part of Dickens of a Christmas from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Visitors are welcome to come warm up from the cold, partake of tasty refreshments, visit with residents and staff, and take a tour of the facility.

Monday, December 3—Give the gift of life this holiday season! Help the Community Blood Bank prepare for the holidays by donating at the December 3rd blood drive any time from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. in Soldiers + Sailors Memorial Hospital’s Board Room. All are welcome to donate as long as it has been 56 days since last donation, and the individual is healthy, over 110 pounds, and at least 17 years of age. Tuesday, December 11—Free Expectant Parents Class entitled “Understanding and Caring for Your Newborn” will be held from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Soldiers + Sailors Memorial Hospital Board Room. Part of a cycle of classes. Participants may join at any time in the cycle. Walk-ins welcomed. For more information, please call (570) 723-0375.

Thursday, December 13 & Friday, December 14—Feed your inner bookworm at the Sunshine Book Fair on Thursday, December 13, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday, December 14 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Soldiers + Sailors Memorial Hospital Board Room. Take advantage of terrific holiday specials and great discounts. Hundreds of books and gifts will be available, including books for children, inspirational reads, trivia quests, delicious cookbooks, brainteasers, popular novels, and games. Wednesday, December 19—Free bereavement support group meets from 10:30 a.m. to noon in Meeting Room C at the hospital. This ongoing support group regularly meets the fourth Wednesday of each month, but accommodations were made for the holidays. Thursday, December 20—The American Lung Association’s Better Breathers, a free support group for people with lung disease, meets at 6:30 p.m. in Soldiers + Sailors Memorial Hospital's Board Room. There will be no guest speaker this month as a holiday party will be held instead; participants are asked to bring a snack to pass. This free support group meets the third Thursday of each month. No registration is necessary; walk-ins welcome! Presented in cooperation with Blue Ribbon Foundation of Blue Cross of North Eastern PA. For more information, call Staff Development at (570) 723-0192.
