WELLSBORO, PA—Fight cancer by joining with your family and friends to support Relay for Life Wednesday, May 5 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Timeless Destination in Wellsboro.
The Laurel Ridge Runners, one of three Laurel Health System Relay for Life teams, will be seating guests and waiting tables at Timeless Destination on Wednesday, May 5 from 5 to 9 p.m. All tips received will be donated directly to the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life event.
The American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life celebrates the lives of people who have battled cancer, remembers loved ones lost, and fights back against the disease. At the event, Relay for Life teams camp out at a local high school, park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event. Because cancer never sleeps, Relays are overnight events up to 24 hours in length.
Relay began in 1985 when Dr. Gordy Klatt, a colorectal surgeon in Tacoma, Washington, ran and walked around a track for 24 hours to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Relay for Life has grown from a single man’s passion to fight cancer into the world’s largest movement to end the disease. Each year, more than 3.5 million people in 5,000 communities in the United States, along with additional communities in over 20 other countries, gather to take part in this global phenomenon and raise much-needed funds and awareness to save lives from cancer.
“We invite the community to come in for a fun evening of great food and friendship that supports an even greater cause,” says Missy Bleggi, Relay for Life team participant. “The Laurel Ridge Runners would especially like to thank Jay Hixon and Timeless Destination for providing us this wonderful fundraising opportunity.”
