LHS's July 2012 Calendar of Events
Monday, July 2—Please help us avoid summer blood shortages! Summer weather means holiday travel, and during heavy traveling seasons, accidents increase. Soldiers + Sailors Memorial Hospital will host a Community Blood Bank drive from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the SSMH Board Room, sponsored by First Citizens National Bank. Two $25 chamber bucks certificates will be raffled. Additionally, donors can register at the drive for a chance to win a Kindle Fire accompanied by a $100 Amazon gift card; all donors at the CBB's various July drives will be eligible to sign up for the Kindle giveaway. All are welcome to donate as long as it has been 56 days since last donation, and you are at least 17 years of age (16 with parental consent). Thursday, July 5—The “Look Good, Feel Better” program, a free workshop for women in cancer treatment, will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Soldiers + Sailors Memorial Hospital’s ’41 Room (located in Pine Grove Café on the first floor). This free workshop teaches women with cancer how to understand and care for the changes in skin and hair that may occur during treatment. To register, or for more information, call 1-888-227-5445.
Tuesday, July 10— Soldiers + Sailors Memorial Hospital will hold a free Expectant Parents class from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Board Room. The class is entitled “Physical & Emotional Changes During Pregnancy.” The class is the first in a cycle of classes, which addresses common questions and concerns of expectant parents, but classes are not sequential, and participants attend at any time during the cycle. Tuesday, July 24— Soldiers + Sailors Memorial Hospital will hold a free Expectant Parents class from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Board Room. It is part of a series of classes addressing common questions and concerns of expectant parents, but classes are not sequential, and participants may attend at any time during the cycle. Wednesday, July 25— A free bereavement support group meets from 10:30 a.m. to noon; please check the Soldiers + Sailors Memorial Hospital lobby for room assignment. The facilitator for the group meetings will be social worker Nicole Butters. Ongoing support group; meets fourth Wednesday of every month. For more information, please call (570) 723-0760.
Wednesday, July 25 & Thursday, July 26—A public two-day First Aid & CPR course will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. each day in Soldiers + Sailors Memorial Hospital’s Conference Room. Nellie Chambers, a qualified American Heart Association instructor, will teach the course. It will address adult, child, and infant first aid and CPR, offering group interaction, feedback, and the highest quality of educational materials, as well as skills practice in first aid and CPR. A course completion certification card will be awarded. The course fee is $60 to cover the textbook and other materials. Registration is required.
