WELLSBORO, PA—On Thursday, September 27, the one-and-only Patch Adams and his troupe of fun-loving, wacky clowns paid a visit to residents at The Green Home in Wellsboro. Patch Adams, MD, is the physician and activist on whom the 1998 film “Patch Adams,” starring Robin Williams, was based.
He is most widely known for his use of clowning to bring humor to patients and founded the Gesundheit! Institute of holistic medicine. Comprised of college students from Mansfield University, his latest volunteer troupe arrived via Tony’s Trolley and quickly set to work “clowning around” The Green Home, bringing smiles, good cheer, and laughter wherever they went. In the evening, Dr. Adams also held a lecture where he offered plenty of laughs as well as insights into his philosophy on healthcare and the role humor plays in healing.
