WELLSBORO, PA--Spring is a time for renewal and rebirth; celebrate the spirit of the season by donating at Laurel Health System’s community blood drive on Monday, May 7 anytime from noon to 5 p.m. in the Soldiers + Sailors Memorial Hospital Board Room, sponsored by First Citizens Bank.

Bring your friends, family, and significant others—all are welcome to donate as long as it has been 56 days since your last donation. These locally-run blood drives help the hospital meet community blood supply needs. Donors must be 17 years of age (16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds, and be in good general health, meaning no colds or flu. Donors should eat a good, solid meal prior to donating and must wait 56 days between donations.

All donors will be eligible for the Community Blood Bank giveaway drawing of two $25 Wellsboro Chamber Bucks gift certificates.

Please don’t assume that you can’t give blood! If you have questions about eligibility, contact a Community Blood Bank nurse at 1-877-842-0631. After donating, participants are urged to sit for 10 minutes and replenish their bodies' reserves by partaking of the snacks and beverages provided by the hospital's Nutrition Services department.

Drives are held the first Monday of each month at Soldiers + Sailors Memorial Hospital and alternate between focusing on Laurel Health System employees and the community, but members of each group are free to donate at any of the drives, as long as it has been at least 56 days since their last donation.  Appointments are not necessary, but can be made if preferred.

For more information or to schedule an appointment to give blood, contact the hospital’s Laboratory Services at (570) 723-0131 or gdoran@laurelhs.org.
