WELLSBORO, PA—Giving back is an important part of a thriving community, and on Thursday, April 22, Laurel Health System gave back to its many tireless volunteers at a special volunteer luncheon. Every year, volunteers are invited to enjoy a delicious luncheon, entertainment, and door prizes. Sixty-seven community volunteers attended at Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church in Wellsboro.
The luncheon recognizes volunteers for their outstanding commitment and willingness to help services throughout Laurel Health System, including The Green Home, Soldiers + Sailors Memorial Hospital, Laurel Home Health / Hospice, and Community Support Services.
“Thank you for the many hours of service that you provide our organization, thank you for being role models for us and our community, and thank you for the smiling faces and kind words that are there for our patients, residents, and visitors,” said Jan Fisher, President and CEO of Soldiers + Sailors Memorial Hospital, in an address to the volunteers. “At each table, we have combined different volunteer groups in hopes that you have a chance to talk to one another about where you volunteer and can learn all about the many ways you share your time with us. Thank you for your many hours of service.”
Judy Roupp, Director of Laurel Home Health / Hospice, added, “We couldn’t do what we do without the service you provide. You provide a listening ear and listening heart. You share your life experiences and allow our patients to share their lives with you. You show what a wonderful world we can live in by offering yourselves freely. Thank you for your time, talents, energy, caring, compassion, and commitment.”
Keith Robb, Director of Materials Management, described the volunteers as “living examples of generosity” and offered an invocation before lunch, which was provided by Soldiers + Sailors Memorial Hospital Nutrition Services and delivered by Laurel Health System employees from many different services. Following lunch, the Wellsboro Men’s Chorus performed music for the volunteers.
