Emily Rizzo, BlueBirds

WELLSBORO, PA—Emily Rizzo, County Coordinator from Bluebird Society of Pennsylvania, recently visited The Laurels Personal Care Home to teach the residents about Sialia sialis (bluebirds).

Rizzo has over 10 years of experience monitoring bluebird nest boxes and spoke with residents about the traits, behavior, conservation, diet, and nesting season of blue birds.  Eastern Bluebirds are primarily found east of the Rockies. Admired for their lovely coloring and distinctive song, the eastern bluebird is the state bird of both New York and Missouri.

The presentation was part of a host of activities and events held for residents. The Laurels is a personal care home that blends the services and security of traditional residential life with the pride and privacy of living in a personal apartment. The caring, nurturing environment is for individuals aged 62 and older who may need help with personal care, but still want to live independently. Trained, supportive staff is on hand 24 hours a day to ensure that all services are available whenever they are needed.
