WELLSBORO, PA—Beginning Monday, August 6, The Laurel Health Centers will kickoff a week-long celebration for National Health Center Week (NHCW) to raise awareness about the mission and accomplishments of America’s health centers. The Laurel Health Centers will be providing free healthy snacks and beverages as well as healthcare items, such as pillboxes and hand sanitizer in honor of NHCW.
In the United States, health centers provide care to more than 23 million people at over 8,000 sites nationwide, reducing unnecessary emergency department visits and hospitalization by providing a wide range of primary and preventive care services. Over the next five years, health centers are set to expand their care to 40 million Americans.
“When people have a convenient center for regular check ups and primary care, they stay healthier and cut down on unnecessary visits to the hospital,” explains Ferlin Patrick, Physician Practice Director for the Laurel Health Centers. “We provide a diverse range of services onsite from family-based care to preventive screenings—allowing our patients to get the care they need under one roof. The LHCs are accredited by the Joint Commission, which assures that the healthcare provided at the Laurel Health Centers meets the highest national standards of healthcare for our patients and that is the standard of care we celebrate during National Health Center Week.”
The Laurel Health Centers are non-profit, integrated community health centers that provide primary care services for all age groups in Tioga County. Strategically positioned to provide convenient, close-to-home care, the centers are located in Blossburg, Elkland, Lawrenceville, Mansfield, Wellsboro, and Westfield. All six of our Laurel Health Centers offer family-based health services, primary care services, special health services, preventive screenings, acute care, long-term health services, and educational programs. As a federally qualified health center, the mission of the Laurel Health Centers is to provide high quality patient care regardless of one’s ability to pay. The LHCs provide care for uninsured and underinsured patients through a sliding fee program.
