Within Laurel Health System’s Soldiers + Sailors Memorial Hospital is the department that was once known simply as X-ray. Today, it’s called Radiology, and it encompasses much more than x-rays—ultrasounds, mammograms, CT scans, MRI, nuclear medicine scans, swallowing studies, fluoroscopy, and bone density scans.
Located on the hospital's first floor, our Radiology Services department includes three general x-ray rooms, two radiographic / fluoroscopic rooms, two mammography rooms, a bone density scanning room, two nuclear medicine camera rooms, two ultrasound rooms, a room for cardiac stress tests, a CT scanning room, and a MRI scanning suite. Additionally, several pieces of radiography equipment are located in the Operating Room Suite at SSMH. Radiology also has a general x-ray room for out-patients at our Water Street facility.
Our radiologists work in conjunction with a patient’s family physician to determine the cause of an illness. Once the test is interpreted by the radiologist, the report is sent to the family physician for diagnosis. The physician, in turn, explains the results of the test to the patient.
