Laurel Health System offers both inpatient and outpatient mental
health services through Laurel Behavioral
Health, located on the third floor of Soldiers + Sailors
Memorial Hospital. We're one of the few community hospitals in the
United States which has a licensed inpatient psychiatric care unit.
Inpatient addiction treatment services are also available through
Laurel Behavioral Health.
For more information, call Laurel Behavioral Health at (570)
723-0530. In a crisis, call 911 or go directly to the Soldiers
+ Sailors Memorial Hospital Emergency Room, where you will receive
immediate attention and be referred appropriately for further treatment.
Outpatient Counseling/Therapy
Counseling, medication management, and psychotherapy provide support
and guidance for individuals facing stressful, confusing, or overwhelming
life situations. Services include psychiatric and psychological
evaluations; individual, marital, family, or group therapy; play
therapy for children; and therapy for depression, anxiety, panic
and eating disorders, and parent-child issues.
In-Home Services
Through a contract with the Laurel
Home Health/Hospice, we provide in-home psychiatric and therapeutic
nursing services for individuals who are confined to their homes
due to mental or physical illness. Physician referral is necessary.
Partial Hospitalization
Partial Hospitalization, an intensive, group-oriented day program,
provides a therapeutic environment for individuals who need less
than round-the-clock psychiatric care in a structured, hospital
setting. Through group therapy, participants learn how to function
independently and to cope with problems like depression, stress,
family issues, overcoming fears, and controlling anger. Program
hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Monday evenings,
5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Inpatient Psychiatric Care
Our Inpatient Psychiatric Care unit provides care for individuals
whose emotional or behavioral problems have severely limited their
ability to cope in their own home or social environment. Through
individual and group therapy, patients learn positive methods of
dealing with life stresses, coping skills they will need outside
the hospital setting, and techniques to manage effectively within
a community setting. Individuals may be referred through a physician,
therapist, or a county crisis worker or by self-referral through
Soldiers + Sailors Memorial Hospital's Emergency Room.
Inpatient Detoxification
These services are offered to patients who are currently enrolled
in a drug and alcohol treatment program and meet the criteria for
admission. Physician referral is necessary.
Eating Disorders
Anorexia, bulimia, and obsessive-compulsive eating are frequently
related to underlying psychological problems such as dependency,
low self-esteem, and a sense of powerlessness. Counseling and nutrition
education can help clients to address underlying concerns and to
normalize eating patterns. These services are also available for
the treatment of childhood obesity.
